Melbourne Woman Shocked at Winning $50m Oz Lotto Jackpot

A woman from Cranbourne in Melbourne, Australia is celebrating winning a $50 million Oz Lotto draw. It’s the fourth largest lottery win in Australia this year and the highest Oz Lotto jackpot.

Her massive stroke of luck came in the Oz Lotto draw held on Tuesday October 4. However, it wasn’t until Friday that the lucky player decided to check her ticket. With her ticket not being registered, that meant the Lott had no idea who had won the Oz Lotto jackpot.

When her ticket was finally checked, she crossed off the numbers one by one and couldn’t believe what was happening.

Having realised that the ticket was a jackpot winner, another shock came when  finding out there had only been one winner and the ticket was sold in nearby Hampton Park. “It can’t be me!” she thought to herself but it was.

Shaking like a leaf

Her ticket was the only one that had been able to match 05, 17, 20, 39, 42, 47. The Oz Lotto winner admits that she was shaking “like a leaf” and her head “spinning.”  

For a few years the Melbourne mother has been playing the lottery. There hasn’t been a great deal of success though.  Speaking to The Lott, she said: “I only ever win $15 on a lottery ticket, so $50 million is out of this world.”  As many a big lottery prize winner says, the Australian mother said “I never expected this to happen to me.”

How will her Oz Lotto winnings be spent? The delighted winner isn’t sure yet and will take some time to make a decision.

Her winning ticket was purchased from the Hampton Park Lotto store. It's owned by Anabelle Johnstone who said she’d been nervously waiting to find out who had won the jackpot.

The store owner said that they had sold division one winning entries for all the other Australian lottery games. However, this is the first Oz Lotto jackpot winning ticket her store has sold. “This marks a full set,” said the store owner.
