On March 31st the lottery was offering 25 extra $100,000 prizes, as well as the usual jackpot and Mr Monteiro found out that he was one of those lucky 25 when he took his ticket to be checked at his local store. Earlier this year a man from London Ontario won a $9 million jackpot on the Lotto 649.“I went to my store to check my ticket and purchase a ticket for the next draw,” the Lotto 649 winner said. “When the clerk validated the ticket, the lottery machine started making noise and then it froze.” Mr Monteiro said that when he found out that he’d won $100,000, he yelled out, and was very happy. Recently a couple from Brampton Ontario, not far from Mississauga, won $1 million on the Lotto Max not long after the husband’s 65th birthday, while another local winner, this one from the town of Windsor, recently celebrated a $100,000 prize on an Encore lottery ticket.According to OLG officials, the Lotto 649 winner went home and shared the good news with his wife, to whom he has been married for 26 years, and two of his three daughters were also home to hear the good news. “They were very confused when I showed them the confirmation slip with the win amount. They didn’t believe my big win at first!” the lottery winner said. A Maryland man who recently won $50,000 on the Powerball lottery said that his wife didn’t believe him when he first told her he’d won big. When asked how he plans to spend the Lotto 649 winnings, Mr Monteiro said that he’s going to take some time to think about the best plans. “For now, we’re going to celebrate with a nice family dinner,” he told lottery officials as he clutched his cheque for $100,000.
