National Lottery winner throws VIP Christmas event

A National Lottery winner from Wiltshire, England is still in the giving spirit, nearly 16 years on from her £2.5 million windfall.Andrea Holmes won £2.5 million on the National Lottery in 2002. After scooping her jackpot she spent money on cars, holidays and property. However, the former hairdresser went back to her roots this Christmas as she threw a special Christmas party for your carers.

Spreading the Christmas cheer around the local community

Ms Holmes helped to host a Christmas party for 75 young carers in Wiltshire, supported by Action for Family Carers. She pitched in by using her hairdressing skills but also helped with the decorating, preparations and other hosting duties. The big festive celebration included makeovers, mocktails, a festive photo booth, reindeer rodeo and a disco. All the very important guests were aged between eight and 16. “These young people are massively affected by caring for someone close to them who has a long-term illness, a physical or sensory impairment, learning difficulties, mental illness or is affected by alcohol or substance misuse,” Ms Holmes explained. “To think these children, have such a responsibility at such a young age is really very humbling.”

A special party for special people

The lottery millionaire continued to say that she hoped all the young carers attending the party felt like VIPs and how much they are valued by the community. Most of all, she wanted to ensure that they had a chance to have a lot of fun, “judging by the shrieks of joy I think they are!”A spokesperson for Action for Family Carers, Heather Beach, said that while the charity can provide day to day support for young carers, putting on lavish events such as the Christmas party are not usually possible. “We want to thank everyone for creating such a memorable and special event. This is one VIP party I’m sure will be spoken of for many years to come.”
