North Carolina Woman Experiences Miracle with Second $100,000 Lottery Win

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — In a tale that intertwines luck and disbelief, a North Carolina woman experienced an extraordinary moment when she won a $100,000 lottery prize not once, but twice on the same scratch-off game. This remarkable event has captivated not just her, but also her community, as they witnessed her journey of fortune unfold in a way that many might only dream about.

The Unexpected Prize

LuAnn Chico, hailing from Lexington, found herself enveloped in a wave of déjà vu while playing the North Carolina Lottery's $20 "Ruby Red 7's" scratch-off game. This particular game had previously treated her well; it had gifted her with a sizable prize in August 2025. Fast forward to her most recent experience, Chico approached the lottery counter during a routine grocery shopping trip at Food Lion on North N.C. Highway 150 in Winston-Salem.

As she selected her ticket from her favored instant game, little did she know that she was about to encounter an experience many would consider miraculous. The thrill of anticipation turned into exhilaration as Chico scratched off the ticket revealing another astonishing win. "I won again!" she jubilantly proclaimed to Lottery officials when she arrived to claim her prize.

Community Buzz and Celebration

The local community was buzzing with excitement and disbelief as news of LuAnn's latest victory spread rapidly. Many were quick to approach her with requests for good luck charms or even cash contributions for their own ticket purchases. "Oh, they want me to rub their arms; they want me to give them money to buy them tickets," Chico chuckled as she recalled the enthusiastic responses from neighbors and friends. However, she remained resolute, urging them instead to try their own luck: "No. Buy your own and try your own luck. That's all it is; it's luck. I got good luck."

On September 21st, Chico made her way back to Lottery headquarters in Raleigh to officially claim her winnings amidst applauding staff members and congratulatory remarks—a fitting recognition of a woman whose fortune had remarkably crossed paths with this particular game once again. After taxes were applied, LuAnn walked away with $72,016—much appreciated but still less than before.

Reflecting on how she had spent her previous winnings, Chico fondly remembered investing in gifts for her four grandchildren who are still enjoying monetary assistance from their grandmother's last windfall. However, this time around she had different plans in mind—a lavish two-week beach vacation with her husband occupies this windfall's priority list.

"This time they're getting a little bit," she explained regarding how she managed the balance between helping her family and treating herself and her husband—"but not as much."

The Ruby Red 7's Game Continues

The "$20 Ruby Red 7's" game that brought LuAnn such fortune continues to thrive since its debut in August 2025. At present, two out of three top prizes amounting to $2 million remain available for lucky players who may find themselves following in Chico’s fortunate footsteps.

• This recent win left only one remaining second-tier prize of $100,000 out of a total of nine originally available.
• Additionally, there are five out of thirty third-tier prizes valued at $10,000 that await discovery by enterprising contestants willing to take their chances.
• The overall odds of winning any prize within this enticing scratch-off game are approximately 1 in 3.45.

As LuAnn Chico immerses herself once more into life after another remarkable lottery win, her story serves as a beacon of hope among avid lottery players everywhere. Whether viewing it through the lens of chance or sheer destiny—her winnings add yet another intriguing layer to the tapestry of stories spun by those who dare to dream big when it comes to lotteries.

This remarkable chapter in LuAnn’s life reinforces how good fortune can grace individuals unexpectedly while also igniting conversations within communities about chance encounters that change lives forever.
