£145,757.50 EuroMillions Win Nearly Didn’t Happen
An earlier retirement than planned is on the cards for Sandra McCormack and George Muir. The couple from Fife in Scotland won £145,757.50 in the May 3 EuroMillions draw. It was a win that nearly didn’t happen though.
The couple won’t be retiring because of this win. It does however mean their planned retirement date can be moved forward.
At present, George, 60, is employed at a hydrogen renewable energy company. His wife, 64, works in a supermarket.
The ticket that has changed his future was bought just hours before the EuroMillions draw was about to take place.
Forgotten
That’s not what usually happens though. “I always play a month in advance,” said the lucky winner. However, at 3pm on the day of the draw, he realised that no ticket had been purchased. He went online and bought a EuroMillions Lucky Dip and the rest is history.
It was already a special day for the couple. They didn’t see the EuroMillions results live because they were out celebrating their 28th anniversary.
The day after the draw George was checking his emails and saw one from the National Lottery. It told him there was news about his EuroMillions ticket. His first thought was that just a few pounds had been won. “I didn’ rush to log in to check,' said the lucky player.
Novelty value
He went onto the National Lottery site to see what the winning numbers were. This was “just for the novelty value,” he recalled. Then he saw that his ticket had matched the five main numbers and one of the Lucky Stars and “disbelief” set in. “I literally dropped my phone! My heart was beating so fast,” said the EuroMillions winner.
Plans for their windfall include going on a family holiday and buying a new car. Mr Muir added: "Thanks to my National Lottery win I am now able to do all of those things which I could previously only ever have dreamt of doing."
Tonight’s EuroMillions draw has a £41 million jackpot. Don’t forget on Friday June 7 there’s a £110m EuroMillions Superdraw.
