Shock as $50,000 Powerball Win Revealed
It’s amazing what you can find when doing some spring cleaning. For a man from Maryland, USA, it wasn’t a book he’d not seen for ages but a $50,000 Powerball ticket.
The Charles County resident is now celebrating his largest ever Powerball win. Whereas some people watch the draw live, or check their tickets soon after, not this one. He had a pile of Powerball tickets going back to January of this year that had yet to be checked.
We don’t know the identity of the lucky winner as they have asked to remain anonymous. However, it has been revealed that the winner is 50 years former government worker.
Time to Check those Tickets
It was in early March that the Powerball winner made his amazing discovery. He’d decided it was finally time to see if his pile of tickets had any winners. He’d been using the Maryland mobile ticket checker to see how his tickets had got on. It proved to be a bit of a chore at first with no winners found. Then the situation totally changed, and the celebrations were minutes away.
A Massive Shock
He found a ticket purchased for the Powerball draw held on January 6. “The app flashed back a prize amount that surprised me — $50,000! I rushed upstairs to tell my wife I had finally won,” said the shocked winner.
Now he and his wife are working out how to spend their $50,000 Powerball win. Current plans don’t include any shopping sprees. Instead, they want to save their winnings and boost their retirement funds.
His winning ticket was purchased from Dash In #7034 located at 7100 Matthews Road in Bryans Road. The winning numbers in the January 6 draw were: 01-20-22-60-66 and the Powerball 03. No birthdays or anniversaries were used, it was a Quick Pick ticket. It managed to match four of the main numbers and the Powerball.
The next Powerball draw is on Saturday April 10 with a jackpot of $55 million. He’ll probably check the results sometime in July. Will he find another big winner?
