Three-Generation Family Scoops up $2.5 Million Lotto 6/49 Jackpot

Imagine the excitement and joy that comes with winning the lottery, now multiply that by eight and spread it across three generations. This is the heartwarming story of eight family members who jointly claimed a whopping $2.5 million share of the Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot.

A Win That Spanned Generations

The winning family from Bas-Saint-Laurent, led by their self-proclaimed "lottery captain" Julien Ross, had been playing with a set of numbers that had been in their family "for a very long time." These numbers finally came through for them, turning them into overnight millionaires.

When Julien Ross discovered they had hit the jackpot, he couldn't contain his excitement. "Look, Monique!" he exclaimed to his sister, Monique Ross, upon her arrival at his house. "We won $2.5 million!" The winning ticket was purchased from Tabagie Rivard convenience store on Avenue Doucet in Mont-Joli.

It was indeed a momentous occasion as their lucky numbers - 1, 7, 21, 33, 41, and 47 - matched all six regular white ball numbers in the Jan. 31 drawing of the game's $5 million jackpot. However, another lucky winner also had all matching numbers, leading to an even split of the jackpot between the two parties.

The Joyous Announcement and Plans for the Winnings

Following this discovery, Julien started contacting the other members of their lottery team one by one to share the exciting news. On Feb. 11, the family gathered at Salon de jeux de Québec to receive their long-awaited prize.

Each member of the winning family had unique plans for their share of the prize money. Two of them, Michel Beaulieu and Julien, used it as an opportunity to change their work lives. While Michel planned to reduce his working hours, Julien bid his job a cheerful "bye-bye, boss" and retired earlier than expected.

Lina Belanger, Beaulieu's wife, envisioned a grand family trip to Scotland with her winnings. She wanted to "follow in the footsteps of the Ross family ancestors," perhaps adding a new layer to their rich family history. Julien's son, Pierre-Luc Bélanger Ross, saw this as an opportunity to purchase his first house with his partner, Stéphanie Bouchard-Gagné.

The remaining winners, Sylvie Bélanger and Gilberte Larue, also had plans for their winnings. The Tabagie Rivard convenience store that sold them their golden ticket was not left out of the celebrations either; they received a $25,000 bonus commission from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

It's a story that shows how dreams can indeed come true when luck is on your side. As for this family spanning three generations, they are sure to remember this win "for a very long time."
