Ticket Sold in Virginia Wins $348 million Mega Millions Jackpot

Friday’s Mega Millions draw produced a $348 million jackpot winner. The winning ticket was sold in Burgess which is in Northumberland County, Virginia.

First win since April

It’s the fourth time this year the Mega Millions jackpot has been won. The last success was in the draw held on April 18 when a ticket sold in Ohio won the $112 million top prize.

This latest success just misses out on being the largest of 2025. That record is still held by a ticket sold in Illinois which won $349 million in March.

The lucky numbers in Friday’s draw were: 18-21-29-42-50 and the Mega Ball 2. No one has come forward to claim the Mega Millions jackpot.  It took a $1.2 million  Mega Millions winner three months to claim their winnings.

However, we do know that the winning ticket was purchased from the E & C VA convenience store in Burgess. That’s a rural area that is situated close to the Chesapeake Bay. It’s great news for the store as they will receive a $500,000 bonus for selling the Mega Millions jackpot winning ticket.

Whoever has won the jackpot now has a major decision to make. They can accept the $358 million as an annuity paid over 30 years. The more popular choice is to take the windfall as a one-off payment. In this case, that would be $155.5 million but whatever option is chosen, state and federal taxes must be paid.

Winner(s) can remain anonymous

It may be that the identity of the winner(s) may never be known. Virginia is one of 11 US states that allows winners of over $10 million to remain anonymous.

This is the  largest single prize won by a ticket in Virginia. Before this latest success, there had been nine Mega Millions jackpot winning tickets sold in the state.

This year has seen  several changes made to the format of the Mega Millions draw.  One is the minimum jackpot amount that can be won. The next draw is on Tuesday and that will have a $50 million top prize.
