Wynnum Grandfather Wins $31.14 million Playing Australian Powerball

Until July 24, the most a grandfather from the aptly named Wynnum in Queensland, Australia had won was an Easter chocolate basket. He’s slightly improved on that now with a  $31.14 million Australian Powerball win.

His ticket was the only one able to win the amazing division one jackpot. He didn’t just win the top prize but had several other wins and in all won $31,140,405.47.

Although he had entered the Australian Powerball draw, the lucky player did not check the results. His ticket was registered, so lottery officials knew exactly who had scooped the jackpot and gave him a phone call.

The unknowing jackpot winner was in total disbelief when receiving that amazing phone call. After a quick expletive, he declared: “Wow. Unbelievable.” Earlier this year, a Queensland man won a $60 million Australian Powerball jackpot.

“Dear, dear, dear”

The Australian Powerball winner then added: “Oh  my goodness. Words can’t explain how I’m feeling right now. Dear, dear, dear.”

No wonder he said to the lottery officials: “Never in a million years did I think I would get this call.”

The retired grandfather says winning the jackpot means a lot to him but will mean even more for his family.

“I’ve lived a happy life, and I’ve been lucky enough to tick most things off my bucket list, so this will be used more for helping others,” he said.

“You’ve made my day. You’ve made my week. You’ve made my kids’ lifetime,” the generous winner added.

His win was achieved with numbers that he had been using for many years. A Queensland couple changed their numbers and  won $50 million on the Australian Powerball.

Although he’s a regular lottery player, he only tries his luck on the Australian Powerball draw when it has a high jackpot.

“Wow”

He’d also purchased a ticket for the latest Set for Life draw. When buying that ticket he thought to himself ‘Wow, it’d be nice to get that.”  He wasn’t so lucky with that draw but admits his Australian Powerball win “is even better.”
