$1.6 million Gold Lotto Prize Claimed after 39 Day Wait

It took a £1.6 million Gold Lotto winner from Gympie in Queensland, Australia 39 days to come forward and claim their winnings. He won in April but decided to “sit and ponder” his win rather than immediately claim it and kept the news to himself.

Mystery millionaire

He had been dubbed Australia’s ‘mystery millionaire’ because his ticket had not been registered. That meant the lottery company had no idea who had won the $1.6 million Gold Lotto prize. Like the rest of us, they had to sit and wait for the winner to come forward.

The lucky winner knew full well that he had become a lottery millionaire. For over a month, he spent his time trying to believe his amazing slice of luck.

He recalled the moment when discovering that his Gold Lotto ticket had won a huge amount. He’d gone to a local newsagency to get his ticket checked. “The young girls behind the counter said they couldn't pay out the prize. That's when I knew it was big.”

Then he found out his ticket had won $1.6 million but didn’t start telling others what had happened. He didn’t even tell his family and friends he was a lottery millionaire.

His love for playing the lottery came from his parents. They didn’t have any major wins but their son said they’d be “very happy to hear that I’ve taken home division one myself.” Two days before his win,  another player from Queensland won a $3.3 million Saturday Gold Lotto prize.

Upgrade

Plans for his Gold Lotto winnings include buying a new car. He loves his present one though and won’t be getting rid of it. “I need a new car. I will keep the one I have and fix it up, but it's time to upgrade it," explained the delighted player.  In February,  a Queensland player landed a $60 million Australian Powerball jackpot.

He was one of three division one winners in the April 12 Gold Lotto draw. The other two winners live in Western Australia.
