$2.35BN IN UNCLAIMED PRIZES AFTER POWERBALL JACKPOT WON

Lottery players have never known a week like the once we’ve just had. Both the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots have been won and as a result there’s $2.35bn of unclaimed jackpot wins.Tuesday saw a ticket sold in South Carolina win the record-breaking$1.6bn Mega Millions jackpot and on Saturday, two tickets purchased in Iowa and New York scooped the revised $687.8m Powerball top prize. The lucky numbers on Saturday were: 08-12-13-19-27 and the Powerball 04, ideal for those using birthdays and anniversaries for their selections. That’s how Canadians Margaret and Gerald Stewart won a $1.7m Lotto 6/49 prize.13 tickets were able to match the five main balls to become lottery millionaires.  Neither of the Powerball jackpot winners have yet come forward to claim their prizes. It’s the same situation in the state of South Carolina where the wait continues for the winner of the $1.6bn Mega Millions to come forward. We do know that the winning ticket was sold at the KC Mart #7 convenience store in Simpsonville. Three years ago, a couple from Chester in South Carolina won $5m playing Mega Millions. C.J. Patel, the owner of the KC Mart #7, said he found out that his store had sold the winning Mega Millions ticket, at 5am. The store will receive $50,000 for selling the ticket and Mr Patel says he plans to put it towards a good cause. He added: “This is good attention and good for the community. We don’t know who the winner is but hopefully he spends that money locally and does some good for the community.”The store was owned for 38 years by Billy Chamblee and it’s still nicknamed ‘Billy’s Store’. He was having lunch in Greenville when told that his former store had sold the $1.6bn winning Mega Millions ticket. He went back there to see what was happening and admitted being “a little bit jealous” of the new owner’s luck.Sometimes it takes a while to claim big prizes. A syndicate from New York had a $1m winning Mega Millions ticket for four months before coming forward. It took Canadian Dino Salciccioli five months to claim his $50m Lotto Max jackpot winnings. It’s likely that we’ll never know the identity of the Mega Millions winner. The South Carolina Education Lottery agrees to keep winner’s names private “because of all the risk associated with having that much money”.To discover how a big win makes you feel, purchase your tickets online at Lottery24.com.
