SYNDICATE’S FIRST TICKET WINS $40M AUSTRALIAN POWERBALL JACKPOT

A syndicate of 14 factory workers from Sydney, Australia have won a $40m Australian Powerball jackpot in the draw held on May 5.

The factory workers were lucky enough to win the entire division, one jackpot prize and other divisional prizes to win a total of $40,445,165. The winners will remain anonymous just like the woman from Maryland, USA, who won a record $500,000 Keno jackpot, but each will receive an Australian Powerball windfall of $2,888,940.

Their winning Australian Powerball ticket was purchased from the Mall News Agency in Campbelltown. The shocked syndicate leader said the news was still sinking in and they couldn’t believe their luck.

A huge get-together is being planned but the Australian Powerball jackpot win nearly didn’t happen. Their decision to buy a ticket was “an out-of-the-blue entry.” While at work the decision was made to create a syndicate. “Everyone put some money in and now we’ve hit the jackpot,” the surprised syndicate leader explained who declared plans to immediately retire from work, just like a few other syndicate members.

Getting a massive win with your first ticket does happen. In Canada a syndicate of croupiers debuted with a $1m Lotto Max win. Andrew Norberg from Connecticut, USA, scooped $1m with his first Powerball ticket. Few can beat the luck of Lisa Quam from Washington, USA, who saw her first Powerball entry win a $90m jackpot.

It was on the evening of the draw that the leader received a call from another syndicate member. They’d seen the results and were convinced their ticket had won the Australian Powerball jackpot. That ticket was immediately checked and the syndicate leader discovered their amazing win. “The phone calls were flying around – my phone was ringing like mad. Everyone was calling everyone about the win – it was crazy!”

Hopefully there won’t be any problems after the recent dispute over a $16.6m Australian Powerball win.

Some of the syndicate members were shaking and others had goose bumps at the thought they had become Australian Powerball millionaires. One even said his hair was standing on end and his face was tingling.
