$5 million Lotto 6/49 Dispute Continues

The dispute over a $5 million Lotto 6/49 win has continued. Canadian Krystal McKay received the winnings but her former partner Lawrence Campbell claims it was him who bought the winning title.

He claims that the $5 million Lotto 6/49 win should be his  and has taken McKay to court. The win came in January of last year. His lawsuit claims that he gave McKay permission to claim the winnings and put the money in her bank account. This was because Campbell was lacking the necessary ID and didn’t have a bank account.

Their relationship subsequently broke down but McKay has kept the $5 million. June 27 saw her defence statement filed in court. It agrees that Campbell bought the winning ticket but it was for her not him.

No discussion

The Lotto 6/49 ticket was then put in her wallet. Her statement says that there was no discussion that the ticket belonged to Campbell. Nor was there a conversation over her claiming the winnings on his behalf.

When the win was claimed, the defendant signed documents in which she claimed to be “the lawful holder of the ticket.”  Last year saw  a dispute over a $2 million BC/49 lottery win.

Campbell was with her when all this happened and did not at that time dispute what was happening. He also signed a release that said he had no claim to the win.

The defence statement says that he told lottery officials he had bought the ticket for her. It also disputes the claims over why McKay claimed the prize, not Campbell.

Claims denied

As for the breakdown of their relationship, McKay claims she had told her boyfriend she wanted to leave him in December 2023. Allegations that a month after the Lotto 6/49 win he found her in bed with another man have also been denied.

Last month saw a judge issue an interim injunction against McKay. It prevents her from selling or transferring assets worth over $3,500 or giving away any of her winnings until the lawsuit is settled.
