Allwyn UK Begin Running the National Lottery

Today isn’t just the start of a new month. February 1 sees a new era for the National Lottery in the UK. For the first time since its launch in 1994, it’s not being run by Camelot with Allwyn UK now in charge.

Their CEO is Andria VIdler and she’s been talking about the plans Allwyn UK have for the National Lottery. Their aim is to make people “feel excited by the National Lottery again and players to believe that it could be them pulling out a winning ticket.”

In the early years of the National Lottery there was more excitement about the weekly draws and scratchcards. It was a whole new experience for the UK and each draw had its own special programme hosted by top celebrities such as Bob Monkhouse and Bruce Forsyth.

Now that excitement has rather died down with lotteries such as EuroMillions offering such large jackpots. Only this week  a UK player won a  £61.7 million EuroMillions top prize.

Now that Allwyn UK are in charge, there will be changes made to the games on offer but not just yet. It hasn’t been an easy process for them to take over running the National Lottery. Legal discussions over the granting of their 10-year license took place.

Bringing back the magic

The CEO explained that “over time” there will be “new ways of playing” introduced. These will “bring back the magic of those early days.” The plan is for the new games to be more entertaining and attract more players. That’s important because it will also help boost the amounts raised for good causes. However, the delay in introducing the new games will see a fall in the amounts raised this year.

Will You Be Next?

2024 will see a major marketing campaign take place. There will be a new slogan namely “Will You Be Next?’  It will emphasise how on average the National Lottery creates two new millionaires every week. There will also be new Olympic and Paralympic-themed scratchcards as well as a celebration of 30 years of the National Lottery.
