€17 million Irish Lotto Jackpot Win Is No Big Joke

Even when a family from Co Mayo in Ireland claimed a €17 million Irish Lotto jackpot, one of the winners thought it still might be a joke.

The win came in the August 27 draw and was the third-highest win in UK Lotto history. When collecting their fabulous prize, one of the winners admitted that the news of their win hadn’t sunk in yet.

“I’m waiting for hidden cameras to pop out and tell us that this is all a big joke,” they said. Even worse, they admitted to still waking up in the middle of the night and “wondering is this real or just a mad dream.”

It’s all very real though and the Irish Lotto winner recalled the evening when the news of their success was received. The family was all together when a life-changing email came through.  When checking their account the €17 million Irish Lotto win was discovered.

We often report how winners suddenly start screaming and dancing. That’s not always so and this family says they “sat in silence and total disbelief.”  A recent $1 million Lotto Max winner said his mind went empty  after discovering his win.

The claims team was contacted the following morning. Another family took  a month to claim their €4.6m Irish Lotto jackpot win.

Plans for their Irish Lotto winnings include taking holidays to Australia and America. Those are destinations that the family have been talking about going to for years. They will also be making some charitable donations.

Big change

Speaking about how the win will affect their lives, the Irish Lotto winner said: “It’s a big change to go from checking your bank balance before shopping to not having that worry anymore.”

The family have asked to remain anonymous. One of their fears was that they’d been given a massive cheque, the ones you regularly see in presentation photos. “We were saying to ourselves how will we not attract an audience with that under our arms!”  Thankfully that didn’t prove to be the case.
