Fun in the ‘Man Cave’ for £1 million UK Lotto Winner
Ally Gilmour from Carluke in Scotland has been playing lottery games for over 30 years. He’s celebrating now after winning a £1 million UK Lotto prize on June 28.
The 57-year-old plans to spend time relaxing in his own ‘man cave.’ That’s something he’s been dreaming of for years and finally he can “socialise in the garden.”
He won’t be on his own though. The UK Lotto winner joked: “It's all a part of Scottish culture to have your friends come for a beer or two in the garden, for a laugh and some TV.”
A feast of entertainment
It’ll certainly prove popular with his friends. Ally plans to install a pool table, darts board, a TV, a games machine and of course a bar.
His win was discovered just before he went to bed. At 6am he phoned his daughter Siobhan and wanted her to check his ticket. Two hours later she hadn’t arrived, so he called her again.
This time Siobhan was in a café getting some breakfast. Her father gleefully asked her to get him “A roll with a square sausage - and some caviar. Don't you know I’m a millionaire?!”
Finally his daughter helped him confirm his UK Lotto win. Ally rushed into the garden and shouted “I’ve won the lottery.”
As he explained: “I wanted the whole world to know. It was an incredible feeling”. At least he didn’t lose his lottery ticket unlike some other Scottish players did.
Pressure gone
It’s a change in luck after recently having to quit his job as an HGV lorry driver due to ill-health. He’s been struggling coming to terms with not working but says this win “takes all that pressure away.”
Treats are also on the way for his wife, Anne, 57, their daughter and grandson. The UK Lotto winner says his windfall will give his family “an exciting fresh start.” Already a couple of new matching Volkswagens have been purchased.
