Joke Turns to Reality with $50 million Oz Lotto Win

A man from Queensland in Australia once joked to his bank manager about winning the lottery. It’s no longer a joke after he won $50 million in the April 9 Oz Lotto draw.

The Landsborough resident owned the only ticket that was able to match the numbers drawn out on Tuesday. His ticket was registered so the lottery company knew who had won the fantastic Oz Lotto top prize.

It took them a while to contact the lucky winner but the morning after the draw, they finally got to speak to him.

The Oz Lotto winner hadn’t checked the results of Tuesday’s draw. He went to bed and left his phone in another room. Instead of discovering he’d become a multi-millionaire, he enjoyed a peaceful sleep. That wasn’t the case for  a $1 million Monday & Wednesday Lotto winner.

Getting weird

The next morning he noticed some missed calls on his phone and found that “unusual”.  That was nothing compared to the voicemail he’d received about a big Oz Lotto win. By now he thought everything was “getting weird.”

He immediately checked his ticket about 15 times and realised that he’d become a multi-millionaire.

When finally speaking to the lottery company, the shocked winner said: “I'm sort of in shock. Is that true?' Still in shock at the amazing news, he added: “'Oh my god! It's not big, mate. It's mind-blowing! I’m shaking.”

Now retirement is on the way for the Oz Lotto winner. He also plans to pay off his mortgage. For the first time he’ll be owning a home outright.

The news of his win will certainly please his bank manager who had previously asked what his retirement plans were. That’s when he made the joke about winning the lottery. “Well, I have!” said the delighted winner.

Made my life

Although it was still early in the morning when he found out about his win it  was time to open a bottle of champagne and celebrate his big win. “You made my day, made my life!” said the overjoyed lottery winner.
