Late Purchase Wins $1 million NZ Lotto Prize

A couple from North Auckland in New Zealand very nearly didn’t buy a ticket for the August 6 draw. Then special numbers helped them win a $1 million jackpot.

The lucky couple have asked to remain anonymous but have been talking about their fantastic windfall.

They are regular NZ Lotto players but don’t play every single draw that takes place. It looked as if they weren’t going to be entering the August 6 draw until the husband asked if a ticket had been purchased.

No purchase had been made but then his wife received a reminder about the draw, so she went online and bought one.even though only $12 was in their account.

Another New Zealand player was shocked when  finding a $7.18 million winning NZ Powerball ticket in her handbag.

Sometimes a lucky dip is purchased but this time a selection with some “family birthdays and special dates” were used.  

All of this happened without her husband being told. When seeing the results of the draw, he recognised the numbers. He told his wife they “definitely would have won something” if they had entered the draw.

Imagine his shock when being told that they had entered the draw. His wife checked the results on her phone watching a virtual draw. “As the numbers circled, I couldn’t stop laughing.” said the NZ Lotto player.

“Oh my gosh!”

When realising $1 million had been won, she began to scream. “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, we’ve got six numbers, oh my gosh!’ - it was all I could say,” joked the shocked winner.

The couple then broke the news to their children and it was time to start on the mini-bottle of champagne they’d been saving. Recent  Postcode Lottery winners also cracked open the bubbly.

“A lot of money for us.”

The NZ Lotto winners plan to invest most of their winnings. “This is a lot of money for us. It’s not something we take for granted so we want to make sure it’s put to good use,” said the female half of the winning couple.
