Lottery Winners Help Refurbish Vandalised Playhouse

A number of Scottish lottery winners have been helping their community. A couple of days was spent painting and furnishing a jungle-themed playhouse in Dundee.

Among those taking part were £58 million EuroMillions winners Lesley and Fred Higgins. They were only too happy to head to The Yard to help repair the playhouse that had been damaged by vandals in January of this year.

Devastated

The playhouse is used by disabled children and was built by a charity five years ago. Its vandalisation had greatly upset those using it and left their parents “devastated.”

It was six years ago that Jim and Pam Forbes from Tayport in Fife won a £655,838 EuroMillions prize. Mr Forbes said the couple just couldn’t believe it when hearing about the vandalism and contacted other lottery winners.

“Everyone has been so upset as we all understand what a vital lifeline this is for so many young people in the area,”  said Mr Forbes. The decision to build a new playhouse was taken and they can’t wait for the children to see the new-look playhouse.

Mr Higgins said that when hearing about what had happened, he and other lottery winners decided to “find a way to help.” With the help of Jim and Pam Forbes, a group was formed to get the playhouse back into shape.

Fun years ahead

The lottery winner added that he knows just how loved the playhouse has been and how important it is to those using it. “The new design is just what the youngsters asked for and we now hope they will have many, many more happy and fun years using it,” said Mr Higgins.

“We just wanted to build a new playhouse for the children as quickly as we possibly could. We cannot wait for all of them to see it,” added the lottery winner.

Others helping included Ray Storey (who lives in Dundee), who eight years ago won £1.5 million, lottery millionaires  Fiona and Bill McKenna, Libby Elliot and £14 million winners Alison and John Doherty from Renfrewshire in Scotland.
