Massachusetts Mistake Results in $2 million Powerball Win

By accident Paul Corcoran from Massachusetts, USA, bought two tickets for the July 9 Powerball draw. It proved to be a great mistake as they both won him $1 million.

How did he make such an error?  Well, the Finchburg resident bought one ticket for the next seven draws. His mistake was to believe those seven draws had expired so he went out and bought another ticket for the next Powerball draw.

His second ticket was purchased from a Country Farms convenience store in Leominster, Massachusetts. That was just ten minutes away from the Market Basket supermarket where his first ticket had been bought.

It was all a mistake though as he was already entered for the Powerball draw. Little could he have imagined just what a fantastic error had been made. Recently  an Irish player thanked a cashier error for his €194,616 EuroMillions win.

Both tickets had the same numbers and ended up matching the five main balls drawn.. If he’d managed to match the Powerball, he’d have ended up sharing the $217 million jackpot with himself..

The double winner has claimed his winnings. His $2 million win will be subject to state and federal taxation.

“Feels good”

He’s not sure exactly how he will use his Powerball winnings. Unsurprisingly though, he said that his win “feels good.”

He added that he’d been playing the same selection for “quite some time” and they’d been chosen randomly.

His mistaken purchase is good news for the County Farms store as they’ll receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the unnecessary ticket.

$325 million  Powerball jackpot tomorrow

Monday’s Powerball draw had a $308 million jackpot. It ended in a rollover and tomorrow’s draw will have a $325 million  top prize.

The Powerball jackpot hasn’t been won since May 31 when a ticket sold in California matched the five main balls and the Powerball.  That was the fourth jackpot win of 2025 with the largest win being  the $526.5 million won on March 29 on the Powerball,  with that ticket also being bought in California.
