£1 million Lotto Win is a Real Knockout

Boxing fan Peter Rogers had a knockout success when winning  £1 million in the September 6 Lotto draw. The 73-year-old from Merthyr Tydfil in Wales only bought his winning ticket on a whim.

Peter has been a big boxing fan for decades and used to train with some of the famous boxers Merthyr has produced over the years.

He was out doing his weekly shop when deciding to make his ticket purchase. A random selection was made and it led to a bigger shock than a favourite being knocked out in the first round.

His ticket was handed to a shop assistant who told him he needed to contact the National Lottery. Peter thought there was a problem with his Lotto ticket and didn’t know what was going on.

Rather than immediately contacting the National Lottery, he went to another shop to again have his ticket scanned. Eventually his fantastic Lotto win was discovered though the shocked winner admits: “I didn’t for a second think it would be a £1m win.”

It’s the latest big win in Wales.  Last month four players each won a £250,000 Postcode Lottery prize.

“The final bell”

Forever thinking of his beloved boxing, the Lotto winner added: “It’s like hearing the final bell after the fight of your life.”   A £1 million EuroMillions winner kept his ticket in his unlocked car  for four months.

Plans for his winnings include buying a new bungalow. Not having to climb stairs anymore will be more suitable for his wife, Rosa, 73. who is in poor health.

House hunting

Mr Rogers commented that moving to a home “more suited to our needs means more to me than anything else I could do with the money.” The successful Lotto player says “I can’t wait to start the house hunting.”

Boxing is never far from his mind though. A trip to New York is also on his wishlist. There’s a very special reason for that because he’s always wanted to see a big fight at the famous Madison Square Garden.
