Rare Scratchcard Purchase Wins Record $1.5 million
Australian lottery history has been made after a woman in Miami, Queensland won a record $1.5 million scratchcard prize.
Her win is the largest scratchcard success seen in Australia and it was a rare purchase by the lucky player.
“Try my luck”
The scratchcard winner admits that she probably only buys probably three or four tickets a year. Recently she’d seen the Mega Cash game in a newsagency and thought to herself: “I’d try my luck” but didn’t buy one.
Then a visit was made to the Harbour Town News & Gifts shop in Biggera Waters. On a whim the Miami resident decided to buy a scratchcard and it changed her life. It’s the latest big win in Queensland after a grandfather scooped a $31.14 million Australian Powerball jackpot.
Such a big win is obviously going to cause a degree of surprise. The scratchcard winner commented: “It’s unbelievable! It’s a huge amount of money! “I’m still feeling overwhelmed by it all.” So was a recent UK £1 million scratchcard winner.
Unsure and dumbfounded
Recalling the moment she discovered her fantastic win, she said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was honestly a mix of unsure and dumbfounded.” It wasn’t until going to Brisbane to claim her winnings did everything start to “feel real.”
Despite the massive win, the scratchcard millionaire says that she and her other half are “just very normal people.” The aim is that this win won’t change that.
Plans for the scratchcard winnings include sharing the windfall with her family. A few holidays will also be enjoyed. Not all will be overseas as she wants to “explore more of Australia,” something she’s long wanted to do.
Some charities in Queensland will also be helped. This includes children’s cancer charities and RSL Queensland. “Above everything, we’re feeling eternally grateful. Thank you so much!” said the successful scratchcard player.
The manager of the Harbour Town News & Gifts store is Scott Day. When finding out that they’d sold a $1.5 million winning scratchcard, he couldn’t stop screaming, "Oh my god!”
