Son Discovers Late Mother’s £18,403 Winning EuroMillions Ticket

A tragedy turned into a triumph for Liam Carter from Aberdeen in Scotland. Just days after his mother Anne sadly passed away, he found one of her EuroMillions tickets and it had won £18,403.

The 34-year-old was going through the sad task of sorting out his late mother’s possessions. Little could he have imagined just what he was going to discover. Usually, it’s a case of so many memories being stirred rather than a winning EuroMillions ticket. Karen Coffman from Pennsylvania  won $1 million two weeks before her husband died.

Don’t forget

He came across a folded envelope that had ‘Sat draw - don’t forget’ written on it. Inside was a ticket for the April 18 EuroMIllions draw. Sadly, just two days before that draw took place, his mother passed away at the age of 67.

Her son wondered if it had won anything. When the EuroMillions ticket was scanned, not only did it reveal that it was a winner but the National Lottery needed to be contacted. Doing so led to the discovery of its value.

It matched five of the main numbers and won £18,403. If it had managed to match one of the two Lucky Stars, the win would have been boosted to 92,640.70. Matching both the Lucky Stars would have seen the £44 million jackpot won.

Froze

How did he react to such news?  "I just froze. I must've gone quiet on the phone. It didn't feel real,” said Liam. He added that his mother was a regular player but had never won “anything big in her life” but if one did come along, the money would be given to him.  Last year saw £18 million UK Lotto winner Dennis Benfield pass away.

The surprised player said that: “It really felt like something she left behind for me. Like one final gift.” His late mother always dreamed of her son being able to buy his own flat. His winnings will help pay for a deposit on one.

Tuesday’s EuroMillions draw has a £72 million jackpot.
