Two Quebec Players Share $70 million Lotto Max Jackpot

Two lucky players shared the $70 million Lotto Max jackpot in the July 11 draw. Both come from the Canadian province of Quebec.

Unforgettable morning

One of the winners is Jacques Deschamps from Montérégie. He had an unforgettable morning when finding out he was one of the Lotto Max jackpot winners.

It was a Saturday morning and he’d woken early and decided to check the latest Lotto Max results. He saw that his ticket was a winner but initially thought it had won $3,500.

Then he asked his wife to check their ticket and amazingly found out it was worth $35 million. Still not sure, he then sent a photo of the ticket to their son.

Not having woken up yet, he didn’t immediately reply. His impatient parents then called his home and asked his daughter-in-law to wake him from his slumbers. Earlier this year,  a record $80 million Lotto Max jackpot was won.

Deschamps is in his 60s, a regular Lotto Max player and owns a construction company. Well he did, now he’s going to retire and his son will take over running the business.

Other plans for the future include buying a condo in Montreal. He also intends to go to Europe with the Netherlands being a possible destination.

Dutch delight

By coincidence, the other $35 million winner is Wilhelmina Van Leeuwen from Montreal. It wasn’t until July 16 that she discovered her fantastic win. The winner is originally from the Netherlands, in her 70s and  retired 20 years ago.

The last 30 years have seen her living in Canada.. Once a year she returns to her homeland but now plans to do so twice a year from now on and fly first class. Her winning ticket was purchased from a convenience store that is in Montreal’s gay village.

Quebec is proving to be a lucky place to buy lottery tickets. In 2024,  Pierre Richer from Montreal won $50 million playing Lotto Max.  Last month saw a 15-strong syndicate of car dealership workers win a $20 million Lotto Max jackpot
