Following in the footsteps of his mother has paid huge dividends for Samesh Kumar from Brookmans Park in Hertfordshire, England. He’s won a £250,000 Postcode Lottery prize.

His mother continually suggested to him he start playing. Her belief was that Samesh was the family’s lucky charm. Sadly, she passed away in 2016 and just four months ago, her son finally decided to start playing in her memory.

Now £250,000 has been won. “I think mum would be really proud,” said the retired fashion firm owner. The Postcode Lottery winner added that his win is “extra special.”

Most of his successful neighbours won £83,333 but Samesh had three tickets so won £249,999. It’s the latest big win in the county after  a couple won a £142,857 Postcode Lottery prize  last month.

In the past, Mr Kumar has also been a chairman of Birmingham City and Cardiff City football clubs.  £115 million EuroMillions winners Patrick and Frances Connolly have invested in Durham Women FC.

Plans for his Postcode Lottery winnings include helping their children, home renovations and some holidays.

Double success

Also winning was Daksha Maroo who had two tickets and won £166,666. After this big win a holiday to India is being planned.

They want to go to Alaska and also a family holiday to Walt Disney World in Orlando, USA where they had a great time several years ago. Going to Alaska is something they’ve long wanted to do. A previous attempt to go there was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Postcode Lottery win came at an important time for Daksha as the Diwali celebrations were taking place.

Wife was wrong

Khalid Mannan and his wife Nivedhita Bajaj only had one ticket but won £83,333. It’s one up for Khalid as his wife had previously told him they’d never win a Postcode Lottery prize.

Both Khalid and his wife work as paediatricians. They’ll take some time off work though for holidays to Canada and the USA. In fact, like their neighbours, they’ll be off to Alaska.
