Wrong Number Wins Share of $1.8 billion Powerball Jackpot

One of the winners of the 6 September $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot has come forward to claim their amazing winnings. It’s a win that wouldn’t have happened but for a massive mistake.

The Seven Bridges Revocable Trust of Fredericksburg in Texas accepted the prize on behalf of the winner who has asked to remain anonymous.

The other half of the massive jackpot was won by a ticket sold in Missouri  and that winner has already claimed their winnings.

Both winners decided to accept their Powerball jackpot win as a one-off payment of $410,324,470.28 before taxes are paid.

New numbers

A representative of the trust stated that usually the player chooses a random selection when playing the Powerball draw. However, on this occasion they decided to play with numbers that were meaningful to him.

That’s not the full story though. After the lucky player had made their purchase, they realised that one of the numbers selected was not one they’d intended to make. Little did they know that error would lead to them winning the Powerball jackpot.

A couple from the UK accidentally  made the wrong selection and ended up winning a £1 million National Lottery prize.

It was the morning after the draw that the player was in their car on the way to church. They hadn’t seen the live draw but decided to check their Powerball ticket and realised the jackpot had been won.

In shock, the driver pulled over and proceeded to check the numbers a few more times. With the win confirmed, they then placed the ticket in the glovebox and then went to church.

“A blessing”

A statement from the lucky Powerball winner was read out by the trust representative. The lucky player said that the win is “a moment of gratitude for us” and a “blessing we plan to enjoy and share with those who are special to us and who serve our community.”  

Tomorrow’s Powerball draw has a $295 million jackpot. Before that there’s a massive $625 million Mega Millions jackpot this evening.
