$25,000 Australian Powerball Win Was Actually $25 million

It took a man from Booragoon in Western Australia nearly three weeks to claim a $25 million Australian Powerball jackpot but at first he thought his win was only $25,000..

His fantastic slice of luck came in the Australian Powerball drawn on October 9. With his ticket not having been registered, lottery officials simply had no way of knowing who had won the $25 million jackpot.

Now he’s finally come forward but has asked to remain anonymous. We do know the lucky winner is male, in his 50s and now very wealthy.

His ticket had been purchased from the Garden City Lottery Centre in Booragoon. The October 9 Australian Powerball draw had a $50 million top prize and was shared by two tickets.  A man from Alice Springs has already claimed his $25 million Australian Powerball win.

It wasn’t until recently that the Booragoon resident remembered his purchase and discovered his ticket was a winner. The ticket had been in his wallet for nearly three weeks. Initially, he thought his win was $25,000 and was unaware of the jackpot having been won.

“More than unbelievable”

Only when going to Lotterywest HQ did he discover just how much he’d won. No wonder he declared: “This win is unbelievable, more than unbelievable.”  Six months ago,  a Western Australian couple won a $30 million Australian Powerball jackpot.

Plans for his Australian Powerball winnings include buying a new car,  “maybe a Porsche.” He also wants to share some of his windfall with his family members “so we can enjoy life.”  

Shock

The delighted Australian Powerball winner added: “They are going to be in for a shock when I tell them.”

The Garden City Lottery Centre is owned by Fiona Lys. It’s the first division one winning ticket the shop had sold since she purchased it three years ago.

Ms. Lys is delighted that the winner has come forward.  “I really hoped they hadn’t lost the ticket because it is $25 million, so now they have come forward we are just so happy,” she commented.
