Charleston friends share $1 million Powerball win thanks to forgotten ticket
Back to news

Two friends from North Charleston, South Carolina, USA, have shared $1 million win on a Powerball ticket which they forgot about for 23 days. The pair won their $1 million in the Powerball drawing on January 6th but didn’t find out that they were winners until January 29th.The winnings ticket had been left in one of the winner’s girlfriends cars, in the cup holder that whole time. Another $1 million Powerball winner, this one from Georgia, also forgot about his ticket to the point where officials were worried the deadline would pass, while a man from Missouri found a Show Me Cash lottery ticket worth $50,000 when he was tidying out his car’s glove compartment. The best friends, who did not wish to be identified when they claimed their Powerball prize from South Carolina lottery officials, said that one of the winners just happened to remember the ticket when he was in his girlfriend’s car, and that’s when the pair found out they were million-dollar winners. Another Charleston winner was an anonymous man who won $1 million on the Mega Millions, and then proposed to his long-time girlfriend. The ticket was purchased from The Spinx #351 store on W Montague Avenue in North Charleston, and it matched the five main numbers 12, 29, 30, 33 and 61 in the January 6th Powerball draw, missing just the Powerball number itself which was 26. The store received a commission from South Carolina lottery officials, worth $10,000, as a reward for selling a winning Powerball ticket. A South Carolina resident won $2 million on the Powerball lottery after playing the same numbers every drawing for seven years. The odds of winning $1 million on the multi-state Powerball lottery, no matter which state you play in, are around 1 in 11.7 million, and these good friends beat them just like a recent New York lottery player who won $1 million but was taking their time claiming the prize. The Powerball jackpot, due to be drawn again this Saturday, February 3rd, is now worth $145 million. Players must beat odds of 1 in over 292 million to win the top prize, but there are many other prizes worth from $1 million down to $4 up for grabs. Why don't you purchase your tickets online at, it's quick and easy.
