Couple Thank Late Dog for £1m EuroMillions Win

Margaret and John Campbell from Liverpool, England were enjoying an overseas holiday when receiving an email from the National Lottery. Only after returning home did the couple discover their £1 million EuroMillions win. But do they have their dog to thank?

The couple were celebrating their ruby wedding anniversary and soaking up the sun on a Greek island. Margaret received an email from the National Lottery informing her there was “news” about her latest EuroMillions purchase.

At first, she thought it’d be another small win. It wasn’t possible to log into the National Lottery app “so I just let it be” said the EuroMillions winner.  From August 2 to 4, the National Lottery site is down but you can still buy tickets from Lottery24.

When they returned home the results were finally checked and the £1 million win discovered. Her husband thought it was a scam but it was real. They asked their son to come around but before he got there, they’d realised they really had won.

“I’ve won”

When he arrived at their home his mother started shouting: “I have, I’ve won.” Her son replied: “Mum, get back inside before everyone finds out!".  Ally Gilmour ran into the garden shouting when finding out he’d won £1 million.

Margaret recalled the moment when the National Lottery confirmed the win. “I was literally shaking,” she said after being asked to write down the amount that had been won.

Kash

A few weeks before their holiday, the couple’s dog Kash passed away. John spoke fondly of their deceased pet and said they believe Kash was responsible for their EuroMIllons windfall. His wife agrees, saying: “I do think Kash had a paw in it.”

One purchase that will be made with their winnings is a ruby ring for Margaret. While on holiday, she’d imagined what it would be like to have one to celebrate their ruby wedding anniversary. The couple also want to help their two sons and will pay the outstanding amounts on their homes and car.

Tonight’s EuroMillions draw has a £145 million jackpot.
