€250 million EuroMillions Jackpot Win Claimed But by Who?

The winner of the record-equalling €250 million EuroMillions jackpot has claimed their winnings. Just who had had their fantastic win is yet to be revealed.

Last Tuesday’s EuroMillions draw finally saw the jackpot won.  The winning ticket was sold in  Co Cork, Ireland and was the first Irish jackpot win since February 2022.

We do know that it is a local Munster win but whether they will go public rather than remaining anonymous remains to be seen.

Gossip

Understandably there has been plenty of gossip in Munster about who has become a multi-millionaire. Some local residents believe it is a syndicate that scooped the €250 million EuroMillions jackpot. Earlier this year,  an Irish syndicate won a €255,000 EuroMillions prize.

However, the National Lottery has only said that “one person has made contact with us.” Whether that is an individual winner or a syndicate leader has not been disclosed.

Emma Monaghan from the National Lottery said they are “absolutely thrilled” the prize has been claimed. The spokesperson added: “At this point, our priority is to give them the necessary time and space to make arrangements and let this life-changing news sink in."

Whoever has claimed the incredible prize has 90 days to go to National Lottery HQ in Dublin to collect their winnings.

One fact we do know is that it was Clifford’s Centra in Cork that sold the €250 million winning EuroMillions ticket.

The store is owned by Ted Clifford and he was contacted by the National Lottery soon after the draw. When told his store had sold the winning ticket, he replied: “Ah this is a wind up, is it? You’re joking me.”

Gutted

It was no joke though. Mr Clifford then said it was “great news” and joked: “I’m just gutted it wasn’t me that bought it.”

Also commenting on the news has been councillor Dan Boyle who is the outgoing Lord Mayor of Cork. Spider-Man fans might recognise this kind of response. The Lord Mayor said: “with great wealth comes great responsibility”.

Tomorrow’s EuroMillions draw has a €26 million (£20 million) top prize.
