First Ever Ticket Wins $1 million Weekday Windfall Prize

First time lucky is a saying that definitely applies to a couple from Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia. Their very first lottery ticket purchase won them a $1 million Weekday Windfalls prize.

The two young players were one of three division one winners in the June 4 Weekday Windfalls draw. Toowoomba is a lucky place to play lottery games. Two months ago,  a widowed retiree won a $3.3 million Saturday Gold Lotto prize.

They found out about their success soon after the Weekday Windfall draw had been made. The female half of the couple said they had been chatting and then remembered they’d entered the draw.

“Yaaay!” was her immediate reaction when realising their ticket was a big winner. Not being experienced players, they thought the three division one winners would share $1 million. Then they realised that wasn’t so.

First house

The lucky Weekday Windfalls winner explained how she was passing a newsagency and on a whim decided to buy a ticket. Now another first is on its way:  “We’ll definitely be buying a house – our first house!” she said. Perhaps they’ll play again on Thursday when there’s a $100 million Australian Powerball jackpot.

Much longer wait

It took a man from Berkeley in New South Wales a bit longer to win a $1 million Weekday Windfall prize in the May 26 draw.

He’d been playing the same numbers in lottery draws for 30 years. He made his amazing discovery when checking the results just before going to bed.

The $1 million winner said: “I saw the winning numbers and I thought, ‘Hang on. These are all my numbers.’ His previous best win had been $4,000.  “Now they’ve really come through,” he said.

Canadian Denise Bérubé also used numbers for 30 years and won a $5 million Lotto 6/49 prize.

Sleep was out of the question and the night was spent asking his wife. “What the hell do we do with all this money?” He said they “won’t rush into anything.” but will pay off their house first
