Proud Mother Wins $229 million Jamaica Lotto Jackpot

For the first time this year the Jamaica Lotto jackpot has been won. A woman from St Andrew has claimed the fantastic $229 million top prize.

The lucky Lotto player was able to match the six numbers that came out in the August 13 draw. When being presented with her winnings, the winner said: “I still can’t believe it’s real.”

Amazingly, the player usually chooses her own numbers but on this occasion decided to purchase a quick pick ticket. That’s like  a recent €127,814 EuroMillions winner from Ireland. 

When the Lotto winner checked her ticket and saw she’d matched the six numbers, she had to keep checking them “to make sure my eye wasn’t fooling me.”

The realisation that she was now a multi-millionaire was still sinking in when claiming her winnings.  Unlike a recent Lotto Max winner, she didn’t dress up as Elvis.

Completely covered

The winner has asked to remain anonymous but we do know she’s a mother who has several high-school aged siblings. Ensuring that their education is “completely covered” is a top priority for her. 

The proud mother added: “This money means I don’t have to worry about sending them to university when the time comes.”  For herself, the Lotto winner is going to buy herself a car.

More big wins?

It’s already been a big week for European lottery players. Tuesday’s EuroJackpot draw saw the €120 million jackpot won by a ticket sold in Berlin, Germany.
