Some players celebrate a big lottery win with champagne. Not so, Jon and Lucy Waring  from Paignton in Devon, England. After finding out they’d won a £3.9 million UK Lotto jackpot in the May 31 draw  the couple downed 10 cups of tea between them.

It was 4am on June 1 when Jon, 57, discovered their jackpot win. Now that’s definitely the best way to start a new month.

“Something just made me check my emails,” said the UK Lotto winner. When seeing  one informing him of a lottery win, he quickly googled the winning numbers.

“I knew they were mine” said the lucky player who has been playing the UK Lotto ever since it
began. It’s  the latest big UK Lotto win after a Durham couple won £1 million.

“Is it April 1?”

His immediate reaction was to turn his tablet off for five minutes. Then he switched it back on and carried out a couple more checks. His next task was to wake Lucy up to tell her their incredible news. “Is it 1 April?” his partner replied.

Finally convinced it was all real, there was no chance of them getting any more sleep. “We  just sat and drank tea – we must have had 10 cups between us,” said Jon. A South Australian player  had a sleepless night after discovering their $4.8 million lottery win.

He has since quit his job as a radio operator for Devon and Cornwall police. Lucy, 48, is a nurse at Torbay hospital but has also handed in her notice to quit.

New Orleans

Both are music lovers so a holiday to New Orleans is likely. It’ll be their first holiday in a “long, long time” so they’ll both need to get new passports.

Jon wants a Harley-Davidson trike bike and also an Audi Q7.  Lucy has her eyes set on a hot tub to relax in.

A new home is also being planned. It’ll be one large enough for a music room so they can display their collection of guitars.
