Who’s the Next Big National Lottery Winner? - ‘It Could Be Yoooooooou!!’
UK National Lottery operators Allwyn have turned the clock back with their new advertising campaign. Once again, ‘It Could Be Yoooooooou!!’ is being used to inspire players to buy tickets and win huge cash prizes.
Allwyn - who recently revamped the national lottery site - hopes the new campaign will showcase real people winning great prizes. They feel they’re talking to a nation that is full of optimism as they wonder ‘what if’ they are successful.
Iconic
The iconic slogan became known throughout the UK when the National Lottery was first launched back in November 1994. Alongside a giant golden hand (also making its return), they have now been re-imagined for the 21st century.
Steve Parkinson is Allwyn’s Brand and Marketing Director. He said: “The original tagline ‘It Could Be You’ has always struck a chord with our players and it has never left us.”
Past winners return
To help promote the new campaign, some famous lottery winners from the past are included in the new television advertisements.
One of these is Sarah Cockings who won a £3.04 million jackpot 20 years ago when only 21 and a social care university student. The headlines were hit when she spent £10,000 on breast enhancement surgery for not just herself but both her sisters.
A Swarovski diamond-studded watch was also purchased and a new house. All these years later, Sarah continued her university studies and now has four children.
Gary MacDonald is seen on a golf course. The former delivery van driver from Essex, England won a £5.2 million lottery jackpot earlier this year. He tells those watching the advertisement: “We won, and you could too!”
When he won his fantastic prize, he initially believed that just £35 had been won. What was his first purchase? Rather than a new home or car, he bought a vacuum cleaner with his Lotto win.
Chris and Geraldine Bradley from Wales also feature in the National Lottery advertisement. They were part of a family syndicate that won £3.57 million 19 years ago. Their purchases include some very expensive motorbikes.
