A man from Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, was a millionaire without knowing it for nine months until he found his winning Lotto Max ticket.

Cornelius Naujoks won his $1 million on the Lotto Max drawing last December but put the ticket aside after purchasing it and forgot all about it. The lucky winner, from Whitecourt in Edmonton, purchased his winning number from Shefield & Sons newsagent in Northgate Centre in Edmonton and won by matching the numbers 3, 1, 25, 26, 33, 39 and 47 in the drawing on December 15th, 2017. Recently we’ve told you about a Michigan scratch card winner who waited a month to claim his $2 million prize, and a Pennsylvania woman who claimed her $50,000 Maryland Powerball prize just a few days before the deadline.

“I was organising my desk a few weeks ago and found a big stack of lottery tickets,” the lucky Lotto Max winner explained, adding that he then took the entire stack to his local store to scan on the self checking machine. “I couldn’t believe it when I scanned this ticket and all of the zeroes came up on the screen.” A man from Baltimore County in Maryland also won big after taking a big stack of Powerball tickets to the store to check them all at once.

The Edmonton man’s ticket won him the $1 million prize in the Lotto Max MaxMillions, an extra raffle style game added onto the usual lottery drawing. He told lottery officials that he did originally check his ticket against the numbers in the main drawing, but as he didn’t win the jackpot, he put it aside to check for smaller amounts later.Last year another Edmonton man became a millionaire after winning $1 million on the Lotto 649.

Now, just nine months later, that his $1 million Lotto Max winnings are in the bank, Mr Naujoks told lottery officials that he plans to buy himself a new home as well as a new car, for which he has a very specific idea of what he wants. “I’ve already spoken to someone at the dealership,” he said. “I would really like to buy a Ford Mustang GT.” A Lotto 649 winner from Calgary, also in Alberta, was also planning to get a Ford Mustang with his $1 million prize.
