MARYLAND MAN IS SATISFIED AFTER $50,000 POWERBALL WIN
A man from Maryland, USA who won $50,000 on the Powerball on a night when a $430 million prize was on offer has revealed he is satisfied with his win.
The lucky winner, from Howard County in Maryland, told lottery officials that he had a true feeling of self-satisfaction as he collected his Powerball prize worth $50,000. The 61-year-old retiree is a regular Powerball player, and he would have bought his ticket for the October 20th drawing no matter the size of the top prize. Another loyal Powerball player from Maryland also found his loyalty paid off when he won $50,000 on this American lottery earlier this autumn.
There was growing excitement for the October 20th drawing because of the size of the jackpot, but the Powerball player buys tickets regularly just in case his luck comes up. It did just that, and his ticket matched four out of the five main numbers and the Powerball to snatch him the $50,000 prize. A couple from Alberta in Canada who thought they had won $60,000 on the Lotto Max were happy with their fortune until they realised it was actually $60 million!
The lucky winner said that he did a triple take when he first checked his winning Powerball ticket at his local grocery store in Elkridge, and as soon as he realised quite how much he’d won, he rushed home to tell his wife. “I told her I’ve got ‘Oh man!’ news and I’ve got good news,” the lucky winner told Maryland Lottery officials. “The ‘Oh man!’ news was that we were one number off the jackpot and the good news was that we won.” A family from Limerick in Ireland recently missed out on a EuroMillions jackpot by one number but said that they were still delighted with their €156,000 prize.
Despite being so close to winning the Powerball jackpot, the Maryland winner said that he is delighted with his $50,000 win. Recently a survey conducted in Sweden suggested that lottery winners really do have more satisfying lives thanks to their wealth. The jackpot itself was won the following week, when two ticket split the $687.8 million jackpot, one of whom was a woman from Iowa who revealed that she almost lost her winning Powerball ticket when she moved into her new home.
The winning Powerball ticket was purchased from a 7-Eleven store on Washington Boulevard in Elkridge. The winner didn’t discuss how he’ll be spending his winnings, but we’re sure that $50,000 will come in useful!
