A retired greengrocer from Bognor has claimed a huge £154,000 prize from the EuroMillions lottery, and revealed that most of his plans for the money involve golf!
John Kingsman, 77, is a keen golfer and has played for the majority of his adult life, so it is no surprise to his friends that he plans to make the most of his new fortune by spending as much time as possible on the golf course. In fact, for Mr Kingsman, golf means so much that he plans to treat his friends to a few games as well.
Mr Kingsman won his £154,144.50 prize on the EuroMillions lottery draw on June 20th, having matched all of the five main numbers plus one out of the two Lucky Star numbers. The golfer didn’t check his ticket until two days after the draw, however, and he told lottery officials that he couldn’t have been more shocked.
“I was shaking from head to toe,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it.” Mr Kingsman asked his neighbour to double check the ticket for him because he was in so much shock he thought he’d misread it, but sure enough the numbers were there.
Mr Kingsman went into his local Sainsbury’s supermarket to get the ticket checked by a cashier, who confirmed his win but told him that he would need to get in touch with Camelot (the UK Lottery Operator) in order to confirm the ticket. Now that he has his winnings, the 77 year old says that he has no intention of giving up his day job.
After retiring as a greengrocer, Mr Kingsman took a part-time job at Wholesales and Catering Supplies in Winchester, where he takes phone orders and makes the tea for the office. Telling lottery officials that he would surely be bored if he didn’t have a job to do every day, he said that he was “probably the oldest tea boy in the country.”
Planning to spend more of his time on the golf course from now on, Mr Kingsman will also treat his friends with meals out and golf games. He also plans on upgrading his Ford Fiesta to a Range Rover.
