Just a day before it was due to expire, James Wilson, 28, from Bradley Stoke in South Gloucestershire, found a EuroMillions ticket worth £51,232.90.
James was clearing out an old wallet when he found the ticket and decided he’d better check to see if it was worth anything. Imagine his surprise when he discovered it matched the five main numbers in the 28th March 2014 draw. He immediately called Camelot but as it was late in the evening their lines had closed for the day. So he had to wait until the following morning to find out if his ticket was still valid, which luckily it was.
“When I met with The National Lottery adviser, he told me that Camelot had been publishing details of the missing ticket through the press for the past six months, but I had no idea. It was purely luck that I stumbled upon the ticket before it expired” said the relieved winner.
The EuroMillions win comes just weeks after he got married and he and his wife currently live with her parents outside Bath. The couple are saving up for the deposit on a house and this win means they can now reach their target ahead of schedule.
James, who works in a warehouse in Keynsham, says that his win will “make such a massive difference to us. Now we can start house hunting and hopefully afford a couple of treats along the way.” He also hopes the EuroMillions windfall will enable him to go back to competing in cycle races, at which he has enjoyed success in the past. Also planned is a new car for his wife to help her travel between her part-time job and her studying. He also intends to continue playing EuroMillions, especially when there is a rollover.
The winning numbers in the EuroMillions draw held on Friday March 28th were: 3-4-19-28-43 with Lucky Stars 3 and 7. There were seven tickets that managed to match the five main numbers. The jackpot for that particular draw was €25,329,483 (£20.94m) and was won by a ticket purchased in Spain.
