New York lottery player is sole winner of Mega Millions jackpot

The Mega Millions jackpot was won this week for the first time since August 22nd, and the entire top prize went to one single ticket holder in the New York area.

Matching the winning numbers 9, 15, 24, 39 and 41 as well as the Mega Ball of 1, the Mega Millions player is entitled to the entire $321 million jackpot. Up until this draw on Tuesday, November 4th, there had been Mega Millions drawings without a winner, leading to the jackpot rolling over to create this huge total.

The lottery player has not yet come forward to claim their prize, although we do know that the ticket was purchased at a gas station in upstate New York, about 75 miles north of New York City. The store owners will also receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, and the owner told lottery officials that he is hoping the Mega Millions winner is one of his regular customers.

This $321 million Mega Millions jackpot is the largest lottery prize ever won in the New York State; beating a $319 million jackpot won in 2011 by a syndicate group of seven state employees in Albany. Lottery officials are hopeful that the winner will come forward soon, but expect that the winner may take their time in order to get their affairs in order before claiming. The winner will have the option of choosing to take the lottery prize in annuity payments, or in a cash lump sum of $197 million before taxes.

As well as Tuesday night’s jackpot winner, there were also five other Mega Millions players who won big prizes on Tuesday evening. Five players, two in Texas and one each in California, New Jersey and New York, matched the first five numbers, missing just the Mega Ball, to take home a $1 million second tier prize. This is the second time in a row that a player from the New Jersey town of Clifton has won $1 million on the Mega Millions lottery, and lottery officials are dubbing it an extra lucky town.

The next estimated jackpot for next draw on Friday October 7th is $15m. Don’t lose this opportunity to win big and purchase your Mega Millions lottery tickets online at Lottery24.com.
