This weekend’s lottery draws had many players excited as the festive spirit continued into the Friday and Saturday night draws.
Many players will have been hoping that their lottery ticket would buy them an extra special Christmas present, and as the Mega Millions lottery was worth an estimated $156 million on Friday night that certainly would have been an extra special gift for somebody. Unfortunately, however, no player was able to match the numbers 2, 5, 10, 20 and 38 as well as the Mega Ball of 14 to win the entire jackpot, but there were two Mega Millions players who matched the first five numbers only to take home the second tier prize of £1 million.
These second prize winners were both found in New York State, and almost 2 million other winners won prizes ranging between $5,000 and $1 dollar in the Boxing Day draw. The next Mega Millions draw will take place the day before New Year’s Eve, on December 30th, and the jackpot is worth an eye-watering $172 million.
After the Mega Millions came the USA’s other popular multi-state lottery game, the Powerball lottery, which was also offering a particularly impressive jackpot on December 27th. Advertised at $110 million, you won’t be surprised to hear that there were plenty of lottery players hoping to get their hands on a belated Christmas present on Saturday.
However, numbers 7, 10, 11, 14 and 36 were drawn from the ball machine in New York City and not one player could match all of the main five numbers and the Powerball number of 15. Three tickets did match the first five numbers only to win $1 million, but the Powerball jackpot will roll over and on New Year’s Eve it will be worth approximately $120 million.
This just leaves one other major lottery from the weekend round-up, and that is the UK Lotto. With a brand new jackpot worth £4.1 million, the lottery could easily have been forgotten amongst the giant jackpots of the USA. However nobody won this lottery either and numbers 11, 23, 28, 30, 32 and 46 meant that the top prize will roll over for the next game on New Year’s Eve, when it will be worth around £5.4 million.
