After 19 draws without a winner, the Mega Millions lottery was worth $260 million this Tuesday, and that jackpot was won by a solo lottery player in Illinois.
The Illinois Lottery confirmed that one single ticket holder will take home the entire $260 million Mega Millions jackpot which has built up over just less than ten weeks. The player who has not yet gone public with their Mega Millions win, matched all of the five main numbers from Tuesday’s drawing 2, 9, 11, 22 and 23 as well as the Mega Ball of 12.
The winning ticket was purchased at a lottery retailer in Blue Island, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago. The last time the Mega Millions jackpot was won was on March 24th in New York, when a group of co-workers from Manhattan took home the $59 million jackpot.
Thanks to the five main Mega Millions numbers all being under 30 and thus opening themselves up to those who choose their numbers based on birthdays and other special dates, there were a huge fourteen players on Tuesday night who missed just the Mega Ball and won themselves a $1 million prize. These players were found in Virginia, New York, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington.
The Mega Millions lottery game will now find itself reverted back to its originally starting value of $15 million, and it will be interesting to see how long it takes for the jackpot to reach dizzying heights once again.
After the Mega Millions lottery was won on Tuesday night, the highest valued world lottery jackpot became the USA’s other multi-state lottery, the Powerball, which was worth $188 million for its draw on Wednesday night. Following a streak of unlucky lottery draws, the Powerball was won the very next day, as one player, this time from Arizona, matched all of the winning numbers 6, 8, 13, 37 and 40 as well as the Powerball number of 11.
Except for the winner’s location, we know nothing about this other multi-million dollar winner, and we are hoping that we’ll soon find out their story!
