A ticket sold in Seattle, Washington State, USA, has won the $157m jackpot that was up for grabs in the March 8 Mega Millions draw. The winner of the multi-million prize has yet to come forward.
The winning ticket was sold at a West Seattle 7-Eleven at 9200 35th Avenue run by Nirvhai Singh. He’s been busy telling everyone that his premises sold the winning ticket and he even put a sign up saying so. “Lucky, I’m feeling lucky. I don’t know how to explain, I’m very happy,” said Singh. He’s perhaps not that lucky because unlike other States in the USA, Washington doesn’t give bonuses to retailers who sell winning tickets. Perhaps whoever the winner is (Nirvhai has no idea) will make a donation to the store as a UK Lotto winner did last year.
Other customers are now hoping they too will become a big winner. One said, “Maybe lightning will strike twice.”
The winning numbers in the March 8 Mega Millions draw were: 27-37-54-66-69 and the Mega Ball 5. Whoever has been lucky enough to win the Mega Millions jackpot will have to go to the Washington lottery headquarters in Olympia to claim their prize. That’s the case with all winnings over $100m. The winner(s) has the option of taking the $157m jackpot as an annuity with one immediate payment and then 29 annual ones, or to take one-off lump sum payment of $102m.
The last multi-million-dollar win in the State was five years ago when an individual won a $380 million Mega Millions jackpot, splitting the prize with another winner in Idaho. There have been other big wins in the state. Last year a player won a $1m Mega Millions prize. Marty Peck was celebrating after his $120,000 Hit 5 win. Another couple from the state won a $1m Powerball prize but so nearly lost their winning ticket when their car was broken into.
The jackpot has been climbing since the last Mega Millions jackpot win on January 8. The next draw is on Friday March 11 with the jackpot back to $15m.
