It was an Aussie father’s day to remember for two lucky Oz Lotto winners

For two lucky Australian fathers it was a special father’s day indeed this weekend as they both won top prizes on the Oz Lotto draw taking home $1.9 million each.

The two fathers, both of whom were found in Queensland, were two of eleven different Oz Lotto winners across the country this weekend, each of whom scored $1.9 million in cash prizes. One of the winners was a father from Brisbane, who told a Lotto spokesperson that he had been away with his family for the weekend before he realised that he was a winner, just like a mother from Chichester who returned from a holiday to a £1 million EuroMillions prize.

According to Golden Casket spokeswoman Elissa Lewis, the Brisbane father contacted lottery officials on Monday morning after he had got back from his holiday, just like another lot of Oz Lotto player who didn’t realise they were winners for four days, and announced that he had discovered his big win late on Sunday evening. Unlike another recent Queensland lottery winner, the Brisbane family have a few plans for their multiple millions, including sharing with the extended family and paying off a big portion of their mortgage, but they have no further plans.

The other lucky Queensland father, who, like the first one, decided not to reveal his identity as yet, is a pensioner from the Sunshine Coast who didn’t realise that he was one of the country’s eleven winners when he overheard his newsagent telling a customer in the store that he had sold a winning ticket. “I jokingly said to him ‘I bloody hope that winning ticket is mine!’” the pensioner told Oz Lotto officials.

Little did he know that his wish would soon come true, and he announced that his Oz Lotto windfall couldn’t have come at a better time for himself and his wife, who is also retired, and with whom he has had a bit of a tough year recently, just like a truck driver from Watford who won £1 million on the EuroMillions after a hard year. “I think we’ll buy ourselves our dream home,” the Queensland father told lottery officials.
