Mega Millions Draw to Undergo Changes

Lottery24 – Mega Millions will changeThere could be some higher Mega Millions jackpots in the future after it was announced that there will be changes to the game from October 31, 2017.

It’s a move that has already proved successful with the Powerball draw when it underwent changes. They led to the incredible $1.6m Powerball jackpot that was shared by three players. The UK Lotto draw had changes made in 2015. The EuroJackpot lottery also got a revamp when more countries joined. EuroMillions also saw major changes last September.

The changes to the Mega Millions draw have already been approved by the Mega Millions national consortium. The big change is that from the end of October there will be 70 main numbers to choose from compared to the present 75. When it comes to the Mega Ball, that also has to be matched if players want to win the Mega Millions jackpot, there will be 25 numbers to choose from. At present the Mega Ball choice is only 15.

The changes will mean the chances of winning the jackpot change from 258.9m to 1 to 302.6m to 1. The second-tier prize is $1m for matching the five main numbers and that will become easier to win with odds dropping from 1 in 18.5m to 1 in 12.6m. The chance of winning any prize will change from 1 in 14.71 to 1 in 24. It’s also been announced the price of a Mega Millions ticket will rise.

Third tier prizes (awarded for matching four of the main balls and the Mega Ball) are currently $5,000 but from October 31 will increase to $10,000. The fifth level prize (three main balls and the Mega Ball), currently $50, quadruples to $200 with the sixth and seventh level prizes (two main numbers and the Mega ball and three main numbers respectively) rising from $5 to $10. The eighth-level prize (one main number and the Mega Ball) goes up from $2 to $4 and the ninth level prize (matching just the Mega Ball) doubles from $1 to $2.

The largest ever Mega Millions jackpot was won in March 2012 when three tickets shared a $656m Mega Millions top prize. The next Mega Millions draw is on Tuesday 2 May with a $15m jackpot. The most recent draw resulted in a ticket sold in California winning the $61m jackpot.
