What might be the perfect way to end the month of June? Well, it’s been announced that a EuroMillions Superdraw is being held on Friday 30 June which means a guaranteed jackpot of €100m (approximately £85m).
Going into the 20 June EuroMillions draw, the jackpot is £52m (€59m), so even if there are more rollovers this and next week, there will still be a big boost to the jackpot on the last day of this month. It’s the first EuroMillions Superdraw since 30 September 2016.
The EuroMillions jackpot doesn’t have to be won in the Superdraw. It wasn’t won in that September 2016 draw and kept rolling over until a ticket sold in Belgium won a €168,085,323 EuroMillions top prize in the 11 October draw.
The first ever EuroMillions Superdraw was held on 9 February 2007 with the jackpot claimed by a ticket sold in Belgium. There wasn’t another one held until 2009 but the two that were held both produced jackpot winners. Four of the last five EuroMillions Superdraws have in fact rolled over leading to enormous jackpots in the coming draws.
That’s what happened in 2014 when the 7 March EuroMillions Superdraw failed to produce a jackpot winner. There were two more rollovers before English player Neil Trotter won a £107.9m EuroMillions jackpot.
Sometimes the rollovers continue for much longer. That happened in the 7 June 2013 EuroMillions Superdraw and it wasn’t until 25 June that tickets sold in Belgium and Ireland shared a €187 million jackpot. The last EuroMillions Superdraw to actually see a jackpot winner was the one held on 6 March 2015, when a ticket sold in Portugal won the €100m EuroMillions jackpot.
So where does the prize money come from for a EuroMillions Superdraw? It’s subsidised by the EuroMillions Booster Fund which receives 4.8% of the Common Prize Fund from each regular EuroMillions draw.
