A lottery syndicate from New South Wales in Australia have won $2 million after their ticket was the only Division 1 winner in last Tuesday’s Oz Lotto.

The private syndicate, a group of three friends who call themselves “the Three Amigos”, have only been playing the Oz Lotto together for 10 weeks, but found that their ticket for the drawing on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 was the only division one entry across the whole country. Another syndicate who won $40 million on the Australian Powerball did so with their very first ticket.

The leader of the syndicate said that the friends decided to purchase their winning ticket online. A lottery winner from Iowa bought his winning scratch card because he was bored.

The three entries also managed to win them the third division prize not one but seven times, making their total prize fund $2,102,649.98. By the time lottery officials contacted the lucky syndicate to tell them of their good fortune on Oz Lotto, the syndicate leader revealed that they’d all already discovered their win and had been up all night. A Mega Millions winner from Maryland in the USA said he didn’t sleep a wink after finding out he’d won $15,000.

“Last night jut before bed, my wife took a look at the Oz Lotto numbers and read them out, and I said, ‘that’s my bloody numbers!’ So, we had a look at it and we didn’t go to bed until 4am this morning!” The syndicate leader explained that together with his two semi-retired friends, they’ve been playing three games a week for the last 10 weeks, and he said that despite the fact their chosen numbers are his, they’re all in it together. A group of friends from Winnipeg were all in it together after they won $3.5 million on the Lotto 649.

“We made a pact to go in Oz Lotto each week. One of us wanted to change the numbers last week because we hadn’t won, and I said, ‘hang on a bit’ and we won this week!” It certainly is a good job they didn’t end up changing the numbers. “I rang my mates to tell them last night – we’ve had a fun night I tell you!” A EuroMillions winner from Ireland was delighted to have changed his numbers after his new choice won him €500,000.
