SEARCH IS ON FOR UNCLAIMED IRISH LOTTERY WINNERS

The search continues for two big lottery winners in Ireland. The January 13 €4,434,994 Irish Lotto winner and a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus winner from the January 19 draw are still yet to claim their winnings, though we do know where the winning tickets were sold.

The €4,434,994 Irish Lotto winning ticket was sold at Daly’s Topaz on the Letterkenny Road in Lifford, Co Donegal. The owner of the shop, Austin Daly, has said there’s been an incredible buzz around the town since Saturday’s Irish Lotto draw.

Last year, a lucky player from Limerick in Ireland won a €5.8 Irish Lotto jackpot. This big win has come soon after the shop went under a massive renovation, including a huge digital screen that they used to announce they’d sold the winning Irish Lotto ticket. The sign simply read: “OMG! Check your tickets. We sold this week’s winning €4.4m Lotto ticket.”

“We didn’t waste much time after it sunk in to let people know,” said the shop owner. As the shop is close to the border, he hopes the winner will be a local person. The winning numbers in Saturday 13 Irish Lotto draw were 01-02-07-33-34-40 and the Bonus Ball 06.

Sometimes it takes a while for players to claim their lottery winnings. Barbara Yiesley from Iowa, USA, took five months to claim her $50,000 Powerball winnings. In Canada, Boris Coquerel took a month to come forward and collect his $30m Lotto Max jackpot.

The €500,000 EuroMillions Plus winning ticket was sold at Lees Gala Store in Ballyhaise in Co Cavan, which is 11kms from the Northern Ireland border. The owner of the store, Dermot Lee, is confident the prize has been scooped by a local. “This half a million euro prize will be life changing to somebody in the Ballyhaise community, it’s an incredible sum to win for our village,” he said.

The vast majority of his customers are from the area so that could well be the case and he added, “We’ll be raising a toast to the winners in the shop today and we wish them all the very best of luck.”

Co Cavan is becoming a lucky area to play the lottery. Kerry McGowan recently won a €112,469 Irish Lotto prize. Sometimes areas can have lucky streaks such as Sullivan County in New York, USA, that had two big Mega Millions jackpots in the space of a couple of months.
