One lucky Dubliner woke up on St Patrick’s Day to the news that they had become a millionaire thanks to Friday night’s EuroMillions draw.

The winning ticket was sold at a store in Dundrum, whose staff members began celebrating St Patrick’s day early when they discovered that they’d sold the winning ticket for the EuroMillions’ Ireland Only raffle. The store owner, Aaron Massey, said that he is overjoyed that his Costcutter store in Windy Arbour, Dundrum, sold the winning raffle ticket. Recently a woman from Dublin was part of a syndicate which won €5.4 million on the Irish Lotto.

“We are a small, busy local shop but there is a lot of passing trade,” the lottery retailer explained, continuing to say that he hopes the EuroMillions winner is one of his regular customers. “What a way for someone to celebrate the St Patrick’s weekend!” A Powerball winner from Iowa in the USA also celebrated St Patrick’s Day by becoming a millionaire when he won $2 million, while a EuroMillions player from Grimsby in England won £1 million on St Patrick’s day last year.

Mr Massey continued to say that his entire store has been the centre of celebrations since finding out they sold the winning ticket, “The excitement here is unbelievable, this is our first big EuroMillions win.” A lottery retailer in Montreal, Canada, celebrated their sale of a Lotto 649 winning ticket by heading off on a team trip away.

There has been a lot of local speculation as to who the winner is, and Mr Massey said that customers coming into the store on St Patrick’s Day were delighted to hear about the EuroMillions win. “We will be known forever more as the lucky green shop!” Another store in Ireland became a lucky lottery retailer after they sold a winning scratch card just a year after selling a jackpot winning EuroMillions ticket.

As well as the €1 million winner of the Ireland Only raffle, there were also ten winners of €5,000, three of which were tickets sold in Dublin, while the rest were from Kerry, Tipperary, Kildare and online purchases. “What a way to get St Patrick’s Day celebrations underway,” said a lottery spokesperson of the big EuroMillions wins. “We look forward to seeing the winner in our Winner’s Room next week.”
