When her husband purchased her Bonus Match 5 ticket for her, a Maryland restaurant manager was grateful to the tune of $50,000 when she found out she was a lottery winner.

The Maryland woman, who works as a manager at a restaurant in a town called Oxon Hill, told lottery officials that she didn’t have time to buy her own ticket because she was busy at work, so her husband bought it for her. A lottery winner from Northern California won $1 million on a 50X The Cash scratch card that was purchased for her by her husband, and a New Yorker won $5 million on a Set for Life scratch card which was a gift from her husband.

The ticket, for the March 12th Bonus Match 5 drawing, used nine lines of the restaurant manager’s favourite numbers. A man from Illinois won $1 million on the Lucky Day Lotto thanks to his choice of favourite numbers.

The husband purchased the Bonus Match 5 ticket at Whitney’s Liquors in Waldorf while his wife was at work, and after the drawing he was checking his own tickets when he realised that his wife’s selections needed checking as well. “I looked at the winning numbers and thought, ‘These look like the ones we play,’” the husband told Maryland Lottery officials, adding that when he scanned the ticket of his wife, the screen showed a $50,000 win, and he stopped still for a few minutes.

Once the numbness had worn off, he called his wife to tell her that her Bonus Match 5 ticket had won a top prize. “I thought he was playing,” the lucky Maryland Lottery winner said. “I told him I was busy and would call him back.” A man from Washington County in Maryland said that his wife didn’t believe him when he told her he’d won $30,000 on a Loteria game.

However, when she got home from work, she woke her husband up and asked to see the ticket for herself. When the win was confirmed, the Bonus Match 5 winner signed the back of her ticket and put it in a safe place until they both had a day off to claim the prize from Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The 57-year-old lottery winner said that she and her husband have no plans for the winnings as yet, and they’ll put it safely in the bank while they make their minds up. A Lotto 649 winner from Ontario in Canada also had no plans for her winnings, other than taking a well-earned vacation.
