MURRAY’S MISTAKE WINS HIM £215,000 EUROMILLIONS PRIZE

Taxi driver Murray McKenzie from Linton decided to use his families’ birthdates when selecting his numbers for the EuroMillions draw held on Friday October 3. Not being able to correctly remember them ended up winning him £215,000.Murray, 63, chose one of his numbers because it formed part of his son Thomas’ date of birth. Well at least he thought it did because he was actually a day out with his selection. The "slightly sheepish" Murray said: "It's a bit embarrassing to admit that I had the wrong date for my son's birthday but with £215,228.30 now in the family coffers, I think he's prepared to forgive me.”The winning numbers in the EuroMillions draw were: 4-13-23-48-50 with the Lucky Stars 5 and 10. McKenzie managed to match five numbers and a Lucky Star. He’d been playing his numbers on and off for years but not for a while until this draw. “I still do not know why at 8am last Tuesday I thought playing them was a good idea. I'm going to put it down to Lady Luck."Despite the big EuroMillions win Murray and his wife of 43 years Pat, who works as a part-time hairdresser, have no intention of retiring. Murray does however intend slightly taking his “foot off the pedal” and cutting back his working hours. The lucky winner has two children, Thomas, 33, and Katie, 40, and says the EuroMillions win “really means the world to us.” He doesn’t intend spending his winnings on a new car or buying a new house because “we are very content with what we have.” The most important thing for Murray and Pat will be the chance to spend more time with their family. They have four grandchildren with another on the way.It wasn’t until the day after the draw while watching the National Lottery that he remembered checking his EuroMillions ticket. He said: "When I saw that five numbers had matched I checked and double-checked, and believing it was the wine making me fuzzy headed, I actually smacked the top of my head to make sure I wasn't seeing things."For your chance of also becoming a winner, purchase your EuroMillions tickets online at Lottery24.com.
